STOP SEQUESTRATION NOW TO PRESERVE USAF READINESS AND MODERNIZATION
WHEREAS, THE AIR FORCE SERGEANTS ASSOCIATION (AFSA) delegates and members convened in San Antonio, Texas, on August 25, 2015, on behalf of the Association’s 100,000 members, during the annual AFSA International Convention and unanimously approved this resolution; AND STOP
WHEREAS, the United States Air Force is a critical instrument of effecting national security interests around the world and the safety and security of our Homeland; AND
WHEREAS, it is the responsibility of this Association to aid in maintaining a superior aerospace defense force for our beloved country; AND
WHEREAS, today’s Air Force is the smallest in size, and its platforms are the oldest since its inception in 1947; yet the demand for critical Air Force services are at an all-time high; AND
WHEREAS, sequestration cuts, approved by Congress and signed into law by the Administration as part of the Budget Control Act of 2011 continue to threaten readiness and modernization; AND
WHEREAS, because there is no more room for spending reductions without rendering grave damage to the protection and well-being of our nation; AND
WHEREAS, further sequestration cuts would necessarily cause a reduction in critical training dollars and place in peril the maintenance and upgrade of critical weapons systems such as our nuclear enterprise, effective ISR programs, and platforms such as AWACS, the F-35 fleet, the U-2, the Global Hawk Block 40, and others; AND
WHEREAS, a strong, ready, modernized United States Air Force is a strong deterrent to those who would do our nation harm; while continued weakening of our Air Force would further embolden our enemies and shake the confidence of our allies; AND
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that AFSA insists Congress repeal Defense Budget Control Act cuts and fund our Air Force at levels to ensure adequate manning, training, and equipment modernization. Without question, our Air Force is at a breaking point, and our nation’s vital national interests are being jeopardized by sequestration, and it must stop now. Further, this resolution directs the AFSA staff to deliver copies of this resolution to appropriate national decision makers.
