AFSA's Key Legislative Issues: Military Benefits
“All of our people who serve are volunteers and we owe them a great debt of gratitude, anything we can do to improve their lives and create a circumstance that’s better for them is just enormously important.”
- Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld
Military service is not just a job; it is a commitment to 24 hours, seven days a week of service to the nation. Increasingly frequent deployments, long separations, recurrent moves, inconsistent quality of housing, and sporadic spousal employment are just a few of the unique challenges consistently faced by the families of those in uniform.
The AFSA understands these challenges first hand and we strive to improve and defend quality of life benefits that support the well-being and economic fairness of the Total Forces. Contained in this edition of the AFSA's 117th Congressional "Legislative List" is a compilation of legislative items pertinent to our Legislative Platform’s “Military Benefits and Programs” Focus Group. AFSA’s Legislative Lists serve as an effective key that will unlock the doors to a more receptive polity and well-informed populous. Support rendered to the legislative program by members of the AFSA is essential to the success in reaching our goals. On the national level, well-timed letters, emails, and phone calls in response to solicited requests and calls for action can make the difference between legislative failure and success. On the local and state level, such communication is no less important. If you have any additional questions about any of the pieces of legislation contained in this Legislative List, please feel free to reach out to our Military and Government Relations Team at [email protected]. |
